Smores, Jiffy Pop, and Guitar Sing-a-longs are a fun way Wakonda celebrates the beginning and ending of the season. Over looking picturesque Wakonda Lake, shareholders and their families come and share lots of laughs and make memories together.
Labor Day Picnic
Great food and music at the Labor Day Picnic is one of the oldest traditions still going at Wakonda. Each shareholder brings a dish or dessert to share. Hotdogs and burgers are grilled and served by staff. Shareholders are welcome to bring family and friends too! What a fantastic tradition and a memorable night before many begin packing up for the season.
Labor Day Auction & Bake Sale
For 29 years Wakonda has held a fundraising event every Saturday of the Labor Day weekend. Shareholders and local businesses donate goods, services, crafts, gift certificates, etc. Items are auctioned off and the proceeds of the event are donated to a scholarship fund and local rescue squad. Wakonda shareholders are super generous and involved in this annual event.
Golf Tournament
Every year Wakonda shareholders and their friends enjoy a golf outing at Green Mansions Golf Course in Chestertown. It too is part of a fundraising effort. It doesn’t matter your skill level – they encourage anyone to come join the fun!
Pickleball Tournament
4 years ago with the rising interest in Pickleball, a tournament was started as a way to raise money for the scholarship fund. What a fun group of welcoming shareholders. They only have one objective and that’s to have fun and teach others how to play the game.
Halloween
Trick or Treat! Before the kids of Wakonda head back to school, there’s always a Halloween Party and trick-or-treating all around the campground! Some sites are decorated and there’s even been a Forest of Fear for all ages to get their goblin and witches scare.
And More….
There’s always some new activity that shareholders set up and host. This past year we had a chili cook-off, Princess and Knights for a Day, Pirate Scavenger Hunt, and Beach Games for kids. Shareholders are encouraged to start new traditions that foster fun and memories for all.
